Just 48 hours after winning the Challenge Cup Final, VEC encountered a strong Clontarf Ath. side in Baskin Lane before coming away wth a 3-2 win, to keep our Premier Division title aspirations on course.
Next is Arthur Griffith Park FC on Wednesday - just another 48 hours later!

VEC Win Challenge Cup Final

After a shaky opening 15 minutes, VEC recorded a resounding 4-1 win over South William Street Celtic in the Final of the Challenge Cup on a wet evening in Home Farm on Saturday 21st May 2016.

Goals from Niall Flynn, Seamus Staunton, Anthony Dunne and Raimonds Jaudzems ensured that VEC brought the Challenge Cup back to Terenure for the first time in 5 years.

VEC in Richard Knight Cup Semi-Final

Two goals in two minutes half way through the first half from Owen Martin and Aidan Hyland (pic.) put VEC in control of this cup quarter-final against Clontarf Ath. in Baskin Lane.

A further goal from Aidan and two further goals from Seamus Staunton and Brian Martin in the second half secured a 5-0 win for VEC and a place in the semi-final against Harding IF.

VEC Win Barton Shield

 

VEC Captain Anthony Dunne receives the Barton Shield from UCFL Chairman Barney Blood after the Final against Arthur Griffith Park Fc on Bank-holiday Monday.

After going behind to a 47th minute goal, VEC levelled matters in the 70th minute when Conall O'Shaughnessy headed in an Andy Myler corner. That's the way it remained right through extra time which meant a penalty shoot-out, where VEC came out on top by 4 goals to 3 to win the Shield. Read Report in STRIKER.

VEC Chairman David Spring presents 'Willie's Boot' to Rob Ellison, Captain of Leicester Celtic, who won the 2015 Willie Kissane Tournament by beating VEC FC 7-6 on penalties afer the game finished 1-1.

Aidan also received the top goalscorer award for his 30 goals.
